NAMI Berkshire County Appoints Austen Riggs Center Medical Director/CEO Andrew J. Gerber, MD, PhD, to its Board of Directors
The Austen Riggs Center is pleased to announce that Medical Director/CEO Andrew J. Gerber, MD, PhD, has been appointed to NAMI Berkshire County’s Board of Directors, deepening the existing relationship between Riggs and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
“Partnering with NAMI is a key priority for the Austen Riggs Center,” says Gerber, adding, “I look forward to working with the other dedicated NAMI Berkshire County Board members to help make a positive difference in our local community on issues related to mental health.”
NAMI Berkshire County’s mission is “to support, educate and advocate for all those in Berkshire County whose lives are affected by mental illness.” They do this through a variety of programs and initiatives with the support of volunteers, local community members, and an active Board of Directors.
Dr. Gerber’s appointment was announced at NAMI Berkshire County’s recent annual meeting on Wednesday, September 28 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Pittsfield.
Also announced at the annual meeting, former Austen Riggs Center Fellow and current Chairman of the Berkshire Medical Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science Alex Sabo, MD, received the 2016 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from NAMI National.
