Virtual Grand Rounds with Kerry J. Sulkowicz, MD

Dr. Sulkowicz will be speaking about some of the emotional challenges that leaders face when their organization is in crisis. He will be drawing upon his work advising leaders over the past 25 years, and especially upon his work during the pandemic. He will also draw upon his experience as president-elect of the American Psychoanalytic Association. The talk will be informal, reflecting on the internal and external dimensions of crisis, and their impact on leaders' ability to maintain followership, adapt organizational strategy and tactics, and respond to the practical and emotional needs of the group, all the while trying to stay true to the organization's mission and values. He will also be addressing some of the ways a psychoanalytic perspective can be helpful to leaders during times of crisis, and possible implications for the field.
Kerry Sulkowicz, MD, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is president-elect of the American Psychoanalytic Association. He is the founder and managing principal of the Boswell Group, a psychodynamic management consultancy based in New York, and serves as a trusted advisor to leaders, senior teams and boards. Dr. Sulkowicz has published numerous articles on the psychology of business and has written about the neglect of leadership in psychoanalysis. Dr. Sulkowicz is a clinical professor of psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine, where he received the Distinguished Teacher Award and received the Edith Sabshin Teaching Award from APsaA. He received an AB from Harvard College and an MD from the University of Texas. Kerry is past board chair of Physicians for Human Rights, which shared in the Nobel Peace Prize.
