The Erikson Institute joins the Berkshire Psychoanalytic Institute in sponsoring a diaper drive and talk by Megan V. Smith, DrPH. of the Yale Department of Psychiatry, Child Study, and Public Health at the Yale University School of Medicine.

One of the hidden problems of poverty is diaper need. Dr. Smith’s research demonstrates the effects on mothers and their children when diapers are in short supply. Maternal mental health and child wellbeing may be significantly disrupted by this often unseen and silent problem. The Berkshire Psychoanalytic Institute is initiating a diaper drive to collect diapers for the most vulnerable members of our Berkshire community.

The project is being led by Marie Rudden, MD a member of the Affiliate Faculty of the Erikson Institute and also on the faculty of the Berkshire Psychoanalytic Institute. Members of the BPI will collect and distribute diapers to local food pantries so that moms will have access to this essential commodity. Come join us on Saturday September 6, 2014 from 9:30-11:00 AM. in the Large Conference Room at Riggs to hear Dr. Megan Smith speak on “Diaper Need and its Impact on Families.”

In lieu of a fee for CE/CME we ask that you contribute $25 worth of diapers, or write a check for $25 dollars that morning which will be used toward the purchase of diapers. For information about the Berkshire Psychoanalytic/Erikson Institute Diaper Drive please contact the Chair of the project Marie Rudden, MD [413] 232.0157 or Elizabeth Weinberg, MD [413] 931.5256.
