Dr. Eric Plakun Elected as the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Area 1 Trustee
The Austen Riggs Center is pleased to announce the election of Associate Medical Director and Director of Biopsychosocial Advocacy Eric Plakun, MD, DLFAPA, FACPsych, to serve as the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Area 1 Trustee*.
The Area 1 Trustee is charged with tending to the best interests of the APA as a representative sent to the Board of Trustees by APA members from Area 1. According to the APA website, the Board of Trustees “determines the priorities, policies, and budgets of the APA.”
Austen Riggs Center Medical Director/CEO Andrew J. Gerber, MD, PhD, remarked, “Eric’s dedication to a biopsychosocial approach to care for those struggling with mental illness has been unwavering throughout his career. Having his voice in the leadership of the APA where he will support psychotherapy, residential treatment, fair reimbursement for mental health treatments, and all the things we stand for at Riggs, is nothing short of spectacular.”
Below, you can watch a video of Dr. Plakun speaking about what he stands for and the four freedoms owed to those struggling with mental disorders.
