For New Patients: What to Bring
Austen Riggs Center patients compiled this list of items for incoming patients preparing for a stay. Some are practical items you may not know to bring; others are suggestions to help you acclimate to your new environment. The admissions staff can help if you have further questions.
Suggested Items to Bring
- Alarm clock and watch
- Robe, flip flops, slippers, toiletries and shower caddy
- Hair dryer
- Hangers (Housekeeping has a limited supply; if you plan to have many hanging clothes, it is suggested to bring your own.)
- TV (can bring your own as they are permitted in rooms; however there are several entertainment centers in the patient residences and the Community Center)
- Cell phone (service is limited in Stockbridge)
- Laptop computer
- Writing supplies
- Sporting gear (bike, roller blades, yoga mat, etc.)
- Workout clothes
- Laundry basket or bag
- High Efficiency (HE) laundry detergent REQUIRED! (We have front load washers; label on detergent must read “HE”.)
- iPod, radio, books (library in the Inn and a local library in town)
- Hobby (knitting, needle pointing)
Items Provided by Austen Riggs
- Linens (sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets) and towels
- Tissue and bar soap
- Cleaning supplies (vacuum, wet broom, sponges, garbage bags, light bulbs, disposable gloves, bathroom cleaners; as you are responsible for keeping your room and bathroom clean)
- Cable (hook-up provided in individual rooms if you choose to bring your own TV)
- Public computers are provided in the Community Center and the Inn
- Wireless Internet access
