The Admissions Waiting List at the Austen Riggs Center
We are often asked about our waiting list and how it relates to the admissions process at the Austen Riggs Center.
The waiting list consists of prospective patients whose clinical situations have been reviewed by the director of admissions and then determined as potential candidates for admission. They are waiting for us to schedule the face-to-face admissions consultation during which we make the actual determination about whether to offer admission. Admission is offered to approximately ninety (90) percent of those seen for an admissions consultation.
We have been managing a waiting list for over a decade and find the length of the list to be quite variable and its length can change drastically within a short period of time. We have learned to limit admissions to typically two patients weekly in order to help them acclimate to the open setting and community, and to help us to get to know them.
You can read more information on how Riggs manages the waiting list and hear Dr. Samar Habl, director of admissions, speak about the waiting list.
