Education

  • BEd in technology education from Queen’s University
  • BFA in furniture design from Sheridan College of Art & Design
Steve Butler is a woodworking instructor in the Activities Program at the Austen Riggs Center.
Butler has taught high school, elementary, and college students, all of which has prepared him for his role at Riggs.
Previously he was the department head of the wood studio at Peters Valley Craft Center, Layton, NJ. He taught woodworking workshops and created the curriculum for other workshops. In addition, he hired guest instructors and developed programs for summer workshops, curated exhibitions, and exhibited work.
He was the department head of the wood studio at the Worcester Center for Crafts, where he ran the wood studio, taught classes, developed programs for other classes, and hired part time and continuing ed faculty.
Butler produces and hosts a PBS woodworking television show titled The Garage with Steve Butler.
