Health and Wellness Program
The Health and Wellness Program at the Austen Riggs Center provides our patients with avenues for improving their physical health, and for reducing stress. We offer opportunities to enhance health and wellbeing in a variety of ways including
- support in developing personal health goals;
- health education;
- classes that may include yoga, Qigong, and strength training;
- personal fitness training;
- guided meditation;
- daily walks; and
- nutritional education and counseling.
Patients are encouraged to experiment with the range of approaches offered and can receive ongoing guidance to strengthen their ability to meet their personal health goals.
In addition, every patient receives a full physical exam on admission. The Medical Office staff, including registered nurses and an internist, is available to address physical illnesses that arise during treatment. When appropriate, patients are referred to off-site medical specialists or facilities for consultation or emergency care.
