It is with great sadness that we announce to the Riggs community the passing of Lisa Koldys. Lisa served as receptionist at Austen Riggs for over 40 years, retiring in 2008. She was 75 at the time of her passing.
Lisa treated each staff member, patient and anyone who she met like family. Her gracious welcome and warmth were the hallmark of the institution throughout her dedicated career at Riggs. Whether it was your first day at Riggs as a patient or staff member, a visiting family member, or a member of the Stockbridge community she always made everyone feel at ease with her willingness to lend a helping hand or listen with compassion. In a psychiatric hospital where the work is challenging, she brightened so many lives. Riggs is honored to have had such a remarkable woman to call our colleague and friend.
At Lisa's service her son eloquently described her smile as infectious and if you had the opportunity to meet her gaze, she undoubtedly touched your life. He also spoke of how she seemed to have a way of seeing the pain in people and was dubbed Dr. K. by many at Riggs because of her ability to care so deeply.
Our sincere condolences to Lisa’s family. Lisa leaves two children and four grandchildren. Lisa cared deeply for many during her lifetime and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.
