The Austen Riggs Alumni Association, founded in 1995, is an important way in which Riggs is able to advance its mission through the efforts of its members -- former patients, former staff and former Board members. Members receive invitations to alumni events, meetings and other gatherings – the highlight of which is a reunion planned every three years.
Alumni Reunion 2013 is scheduled for September 27-29, 2013 on the Riggs campus in Stockbridge, MA. The theme for Alumni Reunion 2013 is Works in Progress.
Our keynote speaker will be Allen Shawn, author of Twin and Wish I Could Be There: Notes from a Phobic Life. An award-winning composer and member of the faculty at Bennington College, Shawn is also author of Arnold Schoenberg's Journey, which won the 2003 ASCAP Deems Taylor Award. In addition to these books and to his large catalogue of music, Shawn has also published essays in The New York Times Magazine, Atlantic Monthly, The Musical Times and The Times Literary Supplement. He is currently completing a book about Leonard Bernstein.
This year’s program will also feature a play reading, an art exhibition, panel presentations by alumni, a chamber music concert featuring four former Tanglewood young musicians, receptions and dinner, and closing remarks by Dr. James L. Sacksteder, Medical Director/CEO.
