Discussion led by John Kerr, Erikson Scholar author of A Dangerous Method
2011, Director, David Cronenberg
A Dangerous Method recounts the improbable but altogether true story of how one young woman changed the course of psychoanalytic history. Admitted to a Swiss hospital at the age of 18, Sabina Spielrein became Carl Jung's "test case," then his friend, then his lover, and ultimately his protégée. Based on Christopher Hampton's play, The Talking Cure, the movie recounts how the complex triangle between Spielrein, Jung and Sigmund Freud decisively affected both theory and politics in the early psychoanalytic movement.
