Riggs In The NewsPsychodynamic Psychopharmacology: Addressing the Underlying Causes of Treatment Resistanceby David Mintz, M.D.
According to Riggs Psychiatrist and Director of Psychiatric Education Dr. David Mintz, psychiatry has benefited from an increasingly evidence-based perspective and a proliferation of safer, more tolerable, and perhaps more effective treatments during the last two years. Despite these advances, however, treatment outcomes are not substantially better than they were a quarter of a century ago. However, there is currently a small but impressive evidence base that shows that psychological and interpersonal factors play a pivotal role in pharmacological treatment responsiveness. In the September, 2011 issue of Psychiatric Times , Dr. Mintz writes about the dynamic factors of psychopharmacology, a growing area of interest among clinicians who require some potent tools for working with their most troubled patients.
