Fellowship TrainingThe Austen Riggs Center is committed to the education of future generations of psychiatrists and psychologists in the skills and values of psychodynamic psychotherapy. To accomplish this part of its mission, Riggs offers post-graduate Fellowships in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Psychiatrists and psychologists participate equally in the Fellowship, though in differentiated roles. The Fellowship is two years in duration. Upon successful completion of the first two years of training, Fellows may be invited to continue for two years of an Advanced Fellowship in which to deepen their learning and develop areas of specialization. For psychiatric fellows, the prerequisite is successful completion of training in an ACGME approved psychiatric residency, and board eligibility or certification by the ABPN. Prerequisites for the Psychology Fellowship are a doctoral degree in psychology and a year's clinical internship, both of which must be from APA approved programs. The Fellowship includes a generous compensation and benefits package, including support for the first two years of a personal psychoanalysis. Fellows may also apply for candidacy or simply take courses at the Berkshire Psychoanalytic Institute, for which the Center’s tuition reimbursement program may offer support. Applications for the Psychiatry Fellowship are welcome from August 1 until January 1. For more information on the Psychiatry Fellowship Program, contact Doreen Barscz, Erikson Institute Education Coordinator, at (413) 931-5273. Interested Psychologists should also contact Doreen Barscz. |
“Fellows learn to do intensive psychotherapy with very troubled patients within a systems framework. They learn about the history of psychoanalytic thinking and a great deal about themselves.” John Muller, Ph.D., Director of Training |
