Tell Me a Story: Creativity and Storytelling. The 2013 Creativity Seminar Begins Friday.
By Nicholas Holliday, M.D., Creativity Seminar Director
“That’s the story of my life,” you mutter when something goes awry. Once again. But is it? What is the story of your life, really, and how do you construct it? How does this narrative affect the ways you think and feel about yourself and the world?
This year’s Austen Riggs Creativity Seminar focuses upon storytelling and narrative. How does the hearing and telling of stories foster creativity in children? Do we encode stories primarily through words or images? In what ways do the stories embodied by music and drama compel us? How does the articulation of a life narrative and its reception by an empathic listener liberate our creativity and the failure to construct a story or be heard promote inhibition and symptoms? Explore these questions and others at our annual creativity seminar, “TELL ME A STORY: Creativity and Storytelling.”
