Former Erikson Scholars Gather for Reunion Dinner
by Lee Watroba
On January 15, 2016 at Gabriel’s Bar & Restaurant in New York City, Dr. Jane G. Tillman, director of the Erikson Institute of the Austen Riggs Center, hosted an Erikson Scholar reunion dinner. The event was attended by nine former Erikson Scholars, along with Riggs Medical Director/CEO Dr. Andrew Gerber and former Director of the Erikson Institute Dr. Jerry Fromm. The evening was a chance for the scholars to get together as a group, not only as members of the Riggs Alumni Community, but also as members of a very special community of Erikson Scholars.
Dr. Tillman writes, “Erikson Scholars come to Riggs for a brief time, and yet leave a lasting legacy to the Center in terms of their scholarship, the relationships they form with us and by bringing us news from the world beyond our insulated Stockbridge life. What they bring changes us---it stretches our thinking, often in areas we have never had the chance to think about. We learn from them and we hope they have learned something from staff and patients that they take with them into their various endeavors.”
Members of the group came from as far away as Texas and found immediate connections between their work and the work of other scholars. The former Erikson Scholars who attended were: Bernard Beitman, MD; Donna Bentolila, PhD; Anne Dailey, JD; Adrienne Harris, PhD; Mark Lipton, PhD; Mark Micale, PhD; Diane O’Donoghue, PhD; J. Christopher Perry, MPH, MD; and Stephen Xenakis, MD.
