The Importance of the Alliance
The alliance negotiated at admission makes treatment in an open setting possible. In the alliance, the patient, therapist, treatment team, and, indeed, all of Riggs, commit to the task of treatment. The alliance includes the patient's agreement to keep him or herself and others safe--or to let us know if that is no longer possible, and to work together with staff to uncover the meaning of behavior and symptoms.
In this video, Steven Ackerman, Ph.D., Staff Psychologist, describes the importance of the alliance as it relates to treatment at Riggs.
