Erikson Institute of the Austen Riggs Center Announces Recipients of Evelyn Stefansson Nef Scholarship

June 30, 2014 – Stockbridge, MA - Each year, the Erikson Institute of the Austen Riggs Center awards the Evelyn Stefansson Nef scholarship to one student each from the Lee, Lenox and Monument Mountain High Schools who is selected by his or her respective school for a record academic excellence throughout the high school years; a stated intention to study social sciences or pre-medical studies in a four-year college program; and demonstrated leadership in community service.

The recipients of this year’s Evelyn Stefansson Nef scholarship are:

  • Monument Mountain High School graduate, Michael Molina-Duque. Michael lives in Housatonic and will attend Berkshire Community College in the fall.
  • Lee High School graduate, Morgan Sherman. Morgan lives in Lee and will attend Westfield State University in the fall.
  • Lenox High School graduate, Robyn Thiel. Robyn lives in Pittsfield and will attend the University of New Hampshire in the fall.

Scholarship recipients receive a one-time award of $1,000 paid after the successful completion of the first semester of college.  In the past, the scholarship was made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Evelyn Nef of the Evelyn Stefansson Nef Foundation.  Although Mrs. Nef passed away in December of 2009, the Erikson Institute and the Austen Riggs Center have continued the scholarships in her honor.

Students awarded this scholarship, along with their families, are celebrated at a special luncheon held in their honor at the Austen Riggs Center. They also receive a copy of Mrs. Nef’s book, Finding my Way, the Autobiography of an Optimist.
