In this three part video series, Brian O’Gara talks about residential treatment at the Austen Riggs Center from his perspective as a nursing staff member.

In Part 3, Brian talks about the many opportunities patients have to engage in activities outside of therapy: getting involved with the Riggs Community Events Board (part of the Therapeutic Community), exploring local attractions in Berkshire County and working with professional artisans at the Lavender Door (part of the Activities Program).  Joan Erikson, former Riggs staff member and spouse of former staff member Erik Erikson, helped create the Activities Program and believed that “these activities…promote change in a positive direction, support competence and enhance the dignity and identity of the person involved.”
